The only permanent, reliable way to identify a lost pet and ensure a happy reunion.
Microchipping allows pet owners to be reunited with their pet if they were to get lost. It takes 10 to 30 seconds to implant the chip, which is the size of a rice grain, and it feels like a slight pinch. The microchips we put in your pet’s skin is not a GPS and cannot track them. However, when the chip is scanned, the pet owner’s contact information pops up and we’ll be able to call them. Microchipping your pet is guaranteed to give you peace of mind should you ever be separated. To set your pet up with their own microchip, call us at 403-527-4888.
The microchip cannot leave your pet’s body once implanted. We place this tiny electronic device under their skin and in between their shoulder blades. It can sometimes be felt but it should not move drastically from this spot. Some people will scan the entire pet’s body just in case. This happens because there are veterinarians who do not implant the chip in the right place and this can lead to it sliding to another part of the body. We, however, always do it correctly.
The only preparation pet owners should be concerned with is ensuring they register their pet’s microchip with a pet registry service. The microchip has a unique number that you will share with this registry, along with your contact information. After registering your pet, don’t forget to update your contact information should you move or change phone numbers. If your pet is lost, located and scanned, the most recent information will appear. Ensure it is accurate.
Often lost pets are found by friendly, animal loving community members. They will be brought to a shelter or veterinarian office to be examined and scanned. If the owner is reached, the pet can board at the veterinarian office until they can be picked up or stay with the friendly stranger if both parties are comfortable with that arrangement.
