Top Parasites That Require Preventative Treatment
Spring is here and that means nice weather for us and time for all the creepy crawlies to wake from their winter slumber. Unfortunately, the nice weather is followed by things such as ticks, lice, and worms.
These are the top parasites that require preventative treatment in our area.
- Lice – Lice are often acquired from areas where many dogs congregate. We commonly hear of pets that have infestations having recently been at a groomer, kennel, or dog park.
- Ticks – Ticks begin questing for a host as soon as the weather reaches 4 degrees Celsius. The main concern with ticks is the diseases they can transmit.
- Worms – Every time your pet comes in contact with the feces of another animal or ingests a small rodent etc. they are at risk of obtaining worms. We recommend deworming a minimum of 1x per year.
Parasites are prevented in a number of ways and with a variety of products. Your veterinary team will be happy to discuss your pets risk level and the best way to care for your cats and dogs this spring, summer, and fall.
