With our in-house lab, we are able to run many diagnostic tests such as blood work, urinalysis, fecal analysis and cytology. If further comprehensive testing is required, we are able to send away samples to external labs such as Idexx Laboratory in Calgary and Prairie Diagnostic Services in Saskatoon.
Radiology is an important tool that we can use to help us diagnose a pet’s illness that we may not otherwise see. We are able to use our digital radiograph to make important diagnoses such as broken bones, tumors, bladder stones and foreign bodies. Radiography for pets is painless, safe and completely non-invasive, and it uses only very low doses of radiation. Because of the low radiation, we are also able to radiograph pregnant pets to determine a size of a litter or whether a pet is pregnant or not.
Ultrasound is a method of looking at the internal ‘soft tissue’ organs of the body. We can use the ultrasound machine to monitor pregnancy as well to look at the structure of the internal organs of the body. Ultrasounds can be part of a more extensive investigation into an illness and can often be accompanied by blood tests, radiographs and possibly other diagnostic procedures.
